Bashing Good Time
Just in time for the start of the NFL season comes Basher Bowl! It’s the latest and arguably most action packed Esurance spot we’ve done for Phil Robinson at Wildbrain. In this latest adventure, Erin and Erik face off against giant menacing robots in a futuristic football death match.
As stated in previous entries, we’ve had a lot of fun working on some of the more recent fantastical adventures of Esurance. It’s very fun to takes these pop characters and dip them into a brand new surreal world. It’s like creating a whole universe in 1/2 a minute!
Brad, our resident football specialist and shameless Raiders fan, designed the evil robots. Roque designed Erin and Erik in their cool Tron-like outfits. I spent most of my time making sure everything flowed nicely, and occasionally destroying some robots in animation.

I saw this one on TV the other day and meant to email you guys. You really out did yourselves on this one... beautiful work! I was glued to the set more than usual when this spot aired... like a moth to a porch light.
Awsome, Awsome stuff! I love these comercials. Amazing job !
very awesome guys!! The animation looked great! Love the colors of those big robots!
Ahh man, they changed the voice for the man. I liked the other guy better.
Steve
terrific, you really brought a new style to advertising with flash! inspiring...
Love the battle football! Touch...DoooWWWnnnn!
Really nice villian designs. I hope you guys can keep making these.
best. insurance. ad. ever.
really nice spot guys. especially love the electro helmet and field goal monsterbot.
that's obviously the hallowed frozen tundra of lambeau field, though. i don't think it snows in oakland.
I dunno..
I have to disagree...
I think it's not your best E surance ad.
I wanna look at the pretty A-NI-MA-TION too much...and I get very iritated when they talk about insurance stuff.
Couldn't you do the same, without the dialog?
(^__^)
Wow thanks everyone for chiming in!
Stephen…. it’s the same voice for Erik as far as I know. I think he’s a touch more agro this time since he’s wrestling evil robots.
Blecha… that’s actually CG snow on the Oakland Coliseum.
Pascal… I can’t choose which one is the best. I like a little something out of all the ones we've done.
I like the robot at the end. He is so happy with the football.
Great stuff fellahs. What more can I say?
I saw this on TV too!! Great job!
Bloody marvellous, guys! Love your colour palette and the dirty rain.
It's KAPOW time!
Thanks people! Even though we feel like we were sacked by large robots, we're excited that you liked it! More fun project news to come...
Those Esurance spots are awesome! They are great looking commercials.
I think there should be a spin off with H.E.R.B.I.E (Humanoid Experimental Robot B-Type Integrated Electronics) from Fantastic Four and that Hiker Droid. They could go out and solve crime together. The Hiker Droid could be the brash, young punk with his disregard for authority and H.E.R.B.I.E could be all like, "I'm getting too old for this!"
It'll be marvelous!
Hello! I met you guys on your walk thru of CN a while back. I showed some scenes and sat across from Joel R(not sure which one of you knew him...) I saw the new esurance commercials on tv too and they look great!!!! so fun!
Hey Elaine!
Thanks for stopping by. Of course we remember you. You basically gave us a schooling in kick butt Flash animation! TO-PE-KA...
ps. Joel smells.
just wanted to say I really like the new commercial with the rough drawings, really cool!
Lookback...Herbie and Hiker Droid show would be hot. They'll have to bring in REX (the pilot from Star Tours) to boost ratings... and maybe Johnny 5 for the season finale!
Hi burgerlog... Thanks for visiting. We'd love to take credit for all the work, but the spot with the rough drawings was done internally by the fine folks at Wildbrain.
Hey guys.
Juts thought I'd let you know.
I just came back from a week out of town in a small island in the caribean( NOT for the delightful reasons you might think).
Anyhow..
everytime we neared a Tv, wether it was in a restaurant, in a hotel, or across the street in a window, there was an Esurance spot palying.
EVRYDAY we could see one.
It almost turned into a joke, trying to spot the esurance spot the first!
NICE WORK!
(also, what Iw as trying to say in the first email is that this last one you have done is FABULOUSLY animated, and that Esurance does not necessarily deserve that GOOD of an animation!(^__^))
So YOU'RE the ones doing all this awesomeness (is that a word? Do kids still say that?) Amazing, cool, cool stuff!! Let's be friends! Go!
Yea, wolfboy!
Thanks for stopping by. I think if "awesomeness" is a word, you'd be King of Awesomeness Land.
I think I met you once briefly with Mike Moon at SDCC. Your work has been shaming me ever since... Drop us a line!
Yes, the TIVO hit 'rewind' when I saw your distinctive stuff. Really great work.
I'm in love with the baseball commercial. The animation of Eric's dialogue is amazing.
Thanks for visiting Michael.. and not skipping over our commercial.
Lauren...thanks! The baseball spot had very little action, so it was all about getting the characters to animate as nicely as possible. I love your blog by the way. Killer stuff!
more right rudder!...Oh I spent many childhood days playing Cyberball against my big brother on the ol Sega Genesis. It never seemed like a good idea to catch an exploding football though.
That's some pretty good playing, but I'd bet our Fightin' Texas Aggies could take on giant robots or two people in spacesuits carrying laser guns any day of the week.
Oh yeah, and great animation too, by the way. :) I always liked these commercials. The first one, "Spy," has to be my favorite.
I love these comercials!
Great~~
Man I love those Esurance spots. I found myself scratching my head though one day. What does they ad have to do with selling insurance. Well keep up the good work.
