A very "Cooly" book

When I'm not working my butt off for all things Ghostbot, I scour the Earth for cool anime items. One such coveted item I got (thanks to my good buddy Chris) is the FLCL storyboard book. It’s got 800+ pages of storyboard goodness by the wild creatives at Gainax.

FLCL has some really wild storytelling, so it’s really interesting to compare the differences between the rough board and the animation. It's a bit hard to find (Chris got mines from Ebay), but definitely worth it for the aspiring board artist.

Great find! FLCL is the SHIZZNET! I must cop one ASAP. I have a similar board book, but not that many pages in it. Thanks for the tip. I heard you guys were doing a cereal killer pic for Von Kreep. My rough is posted over at my blog.

I'll definitely have to check that out. It'll be cool to compare the boards to the animation. I bet a lot of that craziness was done on the fly.

FLCL iz r-some x2! I was amazed at the boards were when I got my hands on the "Groundworks" book a few years ago.

Fans of FLCL would certainly enjoy One Piece...

Sacks... thanks for dropping in!

Eric... it's pretty nuts. It seems like a lot of the crazy ideas they had were fleshed out in the animation process. I'll try to post up some of the board pages soon.

Edco... I've avoided One Piece cuz I thought it looked a little bizarre... but if you vouch for it, I'll give it a whirl.

Jay D Smith...Snap! I didn't know there was a "Ground Works" book for Dead Leaves. I'll have to pick that up.

Roque, I want to thank you for posting this. I bought my copy at the San Diego Comic Con '06 based on the post alone. And, I am thoroughly excited. Will you and the rest of the Ghostbot crew ever make a book like this one to publish all the Erin Esurance goodness? If not a book, why not a few lengthy blog posts with some behind the scenes concept art and character designs? If that's possible that would be great. :)
