Weird

Link

Once upon a time there was a phone call in the studio that went a little something like this:"Weird Al wants to know if you'd like to do a music video for him." (Cue finger-biting and muffled shouts of glee.) There are very few times in your career that you get to collaborate with a legend, so this was a biggie. Al Yankovic is the Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter best known for his masterful parodies of pop culture including spoofs on Michael Jackson, Madonna, and most recently Lady Gaga.

The song we were asked to animate to is "Party in the CIA" (Parody of "Party in the U.S.A." by Miley Cyrus). Al really liked Ghostbot's previous work (in the form of Mole in the City and Buddhist Monkey), so once we read his amazing lyrics for the song we knew what kind of direction we wanted to go.

The experience of collaborating with someone whose career has been highly successful and relevant for three decades (and counting) was surreal to say the least. He was extremely nice, professional, and clear with his vision and at the same time really gracious about letting us do what we do - something you don't often experience from people with even half his success. Nothing "weird" at all here, folks. Just an artist who is creating his art graciously and passionately.

You can download "Party in the CIA" hot off the presses HERE from iTunes.

And also download his full album "Alpocalypse" HERE.

The best part is the subtlety of his likeness. It would be easy to just pick up on the obvious visual cues of the "Weird Al" character (the hair, pencil mustache, shirt, et cetera) but this clip avoids all of those easy shortcuts. Whoever did the character design here did a fantastic job.
