Six Scoop Sketch: "Laser Igloo"

Ok, this has got to be the weirdest subject we've sketched yet. Yes, even weirder than "Gnome Dog"... It seemed so right when we blurted it out but once we started drawing, we knew we had gone too far. I claim only 1/3 of the blame.

Erin conquers the Wild Wild Sci-Fi West

Quick Draw is our most recent commercial we just finished with director Phil Robinson at Wildbrain.

In this spot Erin tussles with a ugly Dr. Doom-like robotic cowboy. It’s a nod to the classic movie West World (I also found some of my own personal geek inspiration from one of my favorite movies, Serenity).

For this spot, we had the extreme honor of having super star comic artist Frank Espinosa help out on the boards. If you’ve followed our previous postings, you’ll know we are all nuts for Frank’s break-out hit Rocketo. Basically, I drew out really rough (arguably horrible) thumbnails that he took and made into beautiful rendered board panels. Thanks for making us look cooler than we really are Frank!

Final design of the robot and backgrounds were done by Roque, while Erin’s smokin outfit was designed by Brad. Our killer colors were handled by Jenny Hansen.

Like Real Speed Race, we had the pleasure of doing not only the design and boards but the layout and animation as well. We’ve really tried pushing all facets of the production with more elaborate effects, more dynamic layouts and a lot of custom drawings (Yeah, we’re gluttons for punishment).

This is definitely one of my favorite Esurance spots we’ve had the pleasure of working on. Check it out!

Cloud Boy

Our pal and fellow Ghostbot, Rhode Montijo, has just announced his upcoming children's book, CLOUD BOY, published by Simon & Schuster.

There's a buzz going around from the lucky few who have seen rumored "advance copies" that this one is classic Montijo. Anyone who has been exposed to Rhode's art knows that this guy can draw like a fool. He has successfully self-published 5 issues of his comic "Pablo's Inferno", re-released the entire collection in a graphic novel, and compiled a beautiful sketchbook entitled "Scribbles and Bits". He's also produced his own line of merchandising including limited edition prints, paintings, t-shirts, stickers, and patches. I'm always amazed at Rhode's drive and dedication to his artwork. That's what makes him so dang good. Oh and did I mention he is also one of the original creators of the insanely popular Happy Tree Friends? Yeah, that too.

Awhile ago, I had the fortune of conning Rhode into helping me out on a music video I directed entitled "Wizard Needs Food Badly", for the now-defunct band Five Iron Frenzy. Unfortunately (like most of the work I direct), this project will probably never see the light of day. But I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to at least hilight the awesome images Rhode created for the flashback sequence in the video (cleaned up by the queen of line, Kris Toscanini; Photoshopped by yours truly).
